Band Gap is proud to announce the publication of our 2025 Benefit Report. As a registered Virginia Benefit Corporation, we hold ourselves to a standard that goes beyond the bottom line. From the partners we choose to the code we write, every business decision we make is driven by two non-negotiable questions: Who does this help? and What is the long-term impact?

Reflecting on the company’s first chapter, CEO Jay Jay Billings shared:

“We knew starting a Benefit Corporation would give us the opportunity to create an enduring impact, and I’ve been amazed to see how far we’ve come from nothing but a business license and a dream to a profitable AI company working on big problems.”

Over the past year, that commitment to thoughtful investment has allowed us to make meaningful strides in frequently overlooked areas. We have proudly supported AI enhancements that empower educators and students in Special Education, and we successfully launched Tracee, our digital platform that simplifies data capture for farmers and foresters to manage their land more sustainably.

For COO and Co-Founder Cathleen Titcomb, this balance of mission and technology is the very core of the company’s identity:

“Band Gap started simply: a few friends wanting to use our skills and experience to make a real difference. Today, those core values drive every decision we make. As I look back at our first chapter and the ambitions we have for the next, I’m reminded of the businessman in The Little Prince. He was so obsessed with ‘matters of consequence’—endlessly counting his wealth—that he forgot to actually be of use to the universe around him. In today’s complex world, I want to prove that a company doesn’t have to choose between success and impact. I think we can earn our stars and care for them, all at the same time.”

To ensure we are meeting these goals, we assess our social and environmental performance using the rigorous, third-party B Impact Assessment. We use this framework not just to measure where we are today, but to map exactly where we are going next—including exploring new frontiers in rare disease research.

We are just getting started, and we’d love for you to be a part of our story.
